Riot Games x AWS collaboration to transform esports content creation and distribution in the cloud

The collaboration Between Riot Games and Amazon Web Services (AWS) will revolutionize the way Riot’s esports content is produced and shared in the cloud. Riot is the first company to reinvent the way fans interact with League of Legends (LoL), Valorantand League of Legends: Savage Rift events using AWS’ data analytics integration for esports broadcasts.

Riot has chosen AWS as the official cloud provider for cloud artificial intelligence (AI), cloud machine learning (ML), cloud deep learning (DL), and cloud services as part of this international partnership.

Riot Games and AWS Collaborate to Deliver New Ways to Experience Esports

In an effort to revolutionize the way they create and deliver content for their games and provide players with the best gaming experience possible, Riot currently uses AWS services for all of its titles. Currently, Riot is working with AWS to improve the global esports event streams it produces for the Valiant Champions Tour (VCT), Wild Rift eSportsand LoL Esports throughout each competitive season.

Riot will use AWS’ wide range of cloud capabilities to provide fans with the following new insights and experiences, as well as in-depth stats offered to major international sports leagues.

First AWS esports stats

In order to enlighten and educate viewers on the important data elements that help a team win, Riot and AWS will offer Statistics powered by AWS throughout esports broadcasts. These stats will appear before, during, and after Riot’s various global esports broadcasts.

Fan voting will determine which esports stats will be created first and made public during broadcasts of the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds) this fall and Valorant Champions in September 2022.

AWS Global Power Rankings

Riot will showcase AWS Global Power Rankings, which will analyze competitive gameplay using AWS analytics capabilities. As a result, during gameplay, rankings for top professional LoL Esports, VCT, and Wild Rift Esports teams will be generated in near real-time.

Pick’em powered by AWS

Throughout the competitive season, esports fans can participate in bracket challenges and compete for rewards by correctly choosing which teams qualify for each championship event. Pick’em powered by AWS will provide new ways for fans to select teams based on tournament stats and compete for rewards. It is based on AWS machine learning technology.

This fall, fan-created teams will develop systems that could be used by every sport in a hackathon event hosted by Riot and AWS, with Power Rankings and/or Pick’em as one of the featured projects. To develop and optimize the solution to power esports stats, Riot and AWS will jointly design an initial version of the platform and then give users access to AWS resources and Riot data.

Riot and AWS will create a global production for a global fanbase

Riot and AWS are committed to making esports accessible to all fans, no matter where they live, how they choose to watch, or what language they use. Riot is launching Project Stryker, a collection of cloud-based Remote Broadcast Centers (RBCs) that use the capabilities of AWS, to do this.

These resources will help Riot achieve its current and future goals of reinventing the entertainment experience in a variety of areas outside of esports and analytics/statistics, including game development, animation, and musical production.

Riot Games will use a 50,000 square feet installation in Dublin and a second facility in the greater Seattle area that will go live later this year, built on RBCs strategically placed around the world, to produce and support live content anywhere in the world at any time of the day. , regardless of the location of the event.
