Channel 4 offers fully paid content creation opportunities for young people in Leeds

An eight-week internship follows the program and will either be with Channel 4’s digital content studio, 4Studio, or with one of Channel 4’s creative partners in Leeds or Manchester.

Sinéad Rocks, Channel 4’s Managing Director of Nations and Regions, said: “We know our Content Creative initiative can change people’s lives and we are really delighted to extend the program to Manchester and provide more opportunities. than ever.

“Working with partners in Leeds and Manchester means more young creative enthusiasts can take that important first step in a career they may not even have realized was on their doorstep.”

Channel 4 particularly wants young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds to apply.

Several creative organizations have signed up to the program to offer internships, including Consume Comms, Social, Dubit, Jaywing and Leeds 2023.

Karl Stones, Executive Creative Director at Leeds-based Jaywing, said: “Creative industries like ours in the north are crying out for a fresh boost of local talent. But the irony is that most of the young people on our doorstep don’t know we exist and what we really do.

“We are passionately passionate about finding the next generation of writers, editors, designers, storytellers and creators – and we know how difficult it can be to get your foot through the door. therefore important that we seize opportunities to address this issue where possible.

“This opportunity alongside Channel 4 to unearth diverse young talent with a passion for creativity allows us to shine a light on them.”

More companies are expected to join the program as several are currently in negotiations to join.

The Content Creatives initiative has already provided training and internships to 18 young people, including Rosie, 20, from Sheffield.

She is currently part of the program in Leeds and said: “Before Content Creatives, I had little knowledge and knowledge about the creative industry and no idea where to start to gain experience.

“The training taught me about the wide range of roles within the industry, as well as how to be confident in my skills. Currently I am interning at a design company and I couldn’t be more grateful to have had this opportunity.

Applications are now open and must be submitted by July 4. The program is open to people aged 18-24 who can work in Leeds or Manchester.
